Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) is drawing a lot of attention from HRD scholars (e.g., Ardichvili, 2022; Harrison et al., 2020; Lee et al., 2014). While the industry is making endeavors to incorporate this emerging technology into Training and Development (T&D), the current literature fails to provide practitioners with a thorough guide to unleash the potential of AI in T&D activities. To identify the issues and help research address the issues, this paper first draws a well-round understanding of AI technology and systematically reviews major activities in T&D. Then, this paper discusses how AI can be used in each phase of T&D and the challenges of using AI in T&D.
