Abstract: Entrepreneurial opportunity recognition can be defined as the process of searching for business opportunities, being alert, and gathering information that may potentially lead to new and profitable business ventures. The present paper is a systematic literature review that follows the PRISMA procedure. The purpose of this paper is to determine the factors that enable entrepreneurial opportunity recognition and the role of education and training in enhancing opportunity recognition. The finding of this study showed that prior knowledge, social networks, external environment, entrepreneurial alertness, creativity, self-efficacy, and entrepreneurial passion as the main factors that play a role in the opportunity recognition process. We were also able to establish the importance of education and training in enhancing opportunity recognition. Experiential learning is at the forefront of education methods used to improve prior knowledge and experience that directly impact the ability to recognize opportunities. Based on the finding of this systematic review of the literature, we propose a conceptual framework for the process of opportunity recognition that includes the role of education and training.
